Celebrating Michaelmas

We have had a wonderful time celebrating Michaelmas today.

We talked about St. Michael the Archangel and how he threw Lucifer out of heaven and how he still protects us today from evil in the world.

We also recited the Prayer to St. Michael.

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection
Against the malice and snares of the devil. We humbly beseech
Thee, O God, to command him; and do Thou, O Prince of the
Heavenly host, by the divine power thrust into hell Satan and the
Other evil spirits who roam through the world seeking the
Destruction of souls. Amen.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us. (said three times)

And we colored a sheet of St. Michael that I found from Waltzing Matilda.

(Notice that our two youngest are both left-handed. My husband, oldest son, and I are both right-handed. Makes it interesting when helping them with tasks such as letter formation and tying shoes.)

We also read "St. George and the Dragon," a story about the patron saint of England noted in legend, who slew the dragon that was terrorizing the country. We also had some coloring pages for St. George and the dragon, but have not finished with those yet. Some other things took precedence over the colors. Things such as their Fisher-Price castle and knights and dragons. We had our own legendary story happening right here in our cottage. What fun for the imagination.

And of course cooking and baking had to be a part of our celebration.
That included:

St. Michael Archangel Cake!

Dragon Bread!

And Dragon Stew!

And what fabulous cool Autumn weather we have had today. That included a very chilly soccer practice this evening followed by our hot Michaelmas dinner. And now we are off to snuggle down under the blankets for our first cool autumn night and to await the arrival of the last day of September and look forward to many more days of celebrating, learning and playing.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the coloring pages. The dragon stew looks wonderful and I wish it was chilly enough here to enjoy some. Thanks for sharing your lovely day!
